Once again Austrian musicians and labels receive the opportunity to call attention to themselves beyond the Austrian border. From the 27th to the 31st of October 2010, the World Music Exhibition (WOMEX) will take place in Copenhagen, Denmark, and is one of the largest and most important international events in the field of world music.
WOMEX is a must-see event for world music experts and offers the oppurtunity to make new contacts, exchange information, discover new talents and establish new business relationships. Above that, it is also a festival with many exciting live acts and takes place every year in a different European city. As an important meeting place for the entire world music scene, each year 300 exhibitors from over 80 countries choose to participate, as well as many journalists and experts.
Austria will also be represented at the WOMEX 2010 with a joint booth for all Austrian participants, including mica – music austria. The goal of the Austrian representatives is to portray the immensely colorful and vibrant Austrian world music scene and to ensure that the Austrian world music artists are also perceived beyond the border. It should also be noted that world music in this country has grown into a mentionable economic factor, considering the many venues which host a diverse range of world music concerts or the many labels that feed the general public with exciting releases. Due to its location between East and West, Austria, in particular Vienna, will become an ever-growing important hub for the international world music scene in the future.
This years accompanying WOMEX festival program sets its focus on bands from the far North of Europe, as well as introducing various other international acts, which include Austria’s hurdy gurdy player Matthias Loibner.
