WOMEX – the World Music Expo – is the most international music meeting in the world and the biggest conference of the global music scene, featuring a trade fair, talks, films and a showcase festival. WOMEX 2020 takes place digitally from 21-25 October.
DIGITAL SHOWCASES, CONFERENCE & MORE
WOMEX has put together a programme that allows all participants to come together digitally. This digital offering provides a virtual space that allows the conversations to continue, the music to keep playing and the global connections to remain strong. Amidst lockdowns, curfews and travel restrictions, WOMEX’ Showcase artists got creative and put together some musical material for WOMEX 2020. It is now possible to travel from your couch to the rooftops of Mexico City, to the courtyard of the Tekfur Palace, to Tel Aviv and Reykjavik through the click of a button. All artists can be contacted via their Artist Profiles where you can also re-watch the Showcase to your heart’s content.
The conference part will consist of interactive online panel discussions, mentoring sessions, networking meetings and presentations. For the WOMEX 20 Digital Edition, speakers from around the world address the global music scene’s most pressing topics.

AUSTRIAN ARTISTS AT WOMEX 2020
GOLNAR & MAHAN trio
Traditional doesn’t always have to sound old-fashioned or dusty. Golnar & Mahan proof that it can also be different. They dress the supposedly old in exciting modern garb and fill it with new life. In the music of Golnar Shahyar (vocals, guitar), Mahan Mirarab (fretless guitar, oud) and Amir Wahba (percussion), the traditional sounds of their homeland, Iran, are combined with western contemporary music, forming a universal language that draws its vocabulary from the music of the Middle East, jazz, folklore singer-songwriting and African rhythms. It is a music that develops an unblievably warm and pulsing vibe of its own.
