Hard to believe, but WAVES VIENNA, the city’s premier club and showcase festival, is waiting just the other side of summer. And there’s something new this year: in the run-up to the festival, Austrian Music Export and Waves Vienna invite studios, producers, and songwriters to the Waves Heartbeats Songwriting Camp, happening from September 4- 7! Applications are open from now until July 25th.
The camp’s aim is to foster international networking, particularly with artists from this year’s partner countries, France and Switzerland. Additionally, the three-day event will help to promote Vienna as a recording and production location, allowing the city’s many studios, producers, and opportunities a chance to present themselves and work together in curated rotating combinations.
Austrian Music Export is organizing the camp in cooperation with our counterpart organizations in France and Switzerland, and with the Waves Vienna conference & festival. The results will be presented at a listening party at the opening of the festival on September 7th – and we’re looking for participants in the following categories:
- Hosts/producers interested working on new music, with a studio infrastructure able to accommodate international teams of 3-5 people on the workshop days (September 5-7).
- Songwriters who would like to take part in the camp.
- Publishers interested in offering suggestions for participating singer-songwriters from their catalogs.
- Labels interested in offering suggestions for participating recording/performing artists from their rosters.
In principle, the camp is open to all genres; the musical direction(s) will depend on the participants. Since Waves Vienna is a co-sponsor of the camp, we suggest taking a look at the line-up of artists at the festival for guidance – the festival’s traditional concentration is (broadly) in the area of pop/indie/electronic.
Austrian Music Export will assume the organization of the teams and the listening party, as well as providing a small budget for food on the days of the camp. Please note that no further compensation is planned.
