Once regarded as a local insider tip, Sweet Sweet Moon has prevailed with his immensely powerful songs and is now ready to conquer Europe. Sweet Sweet Moon, a.k.a. Matthias Frey, is currently preparing his tour through Italy in February, which will cover more than 20 shows and hopefully enchant new audiences with his sublime music.
Looking at the extraordinary and high quality releases of recent years, Austria seems to be an excellent ground for singer/songwriters. One of these young, highly talented musicians is the Lower Austrian Matthias Frey, who was able to cause quite a stir as Sweet Sweet Moon with his debut release “Pompidou” (Siluh Records).
Sweet Sweet Moon offers subtle, understated pop with a strong tendency towards folk, wrapped in beautiful melodies and thoughtful arrangements, presented with a sensitivity that is rarely heard in this country.
Sweet Sweet Moon prefers it rather quiet and never gets really loud with his very soulful songs. Equipped solely with his guitar, a violin and his distinctive voice, the Lower Austrian goes about exploring the world of dreamy, slightly melancholy-tinged acoustic songs. Fortunately, he has a very subtle approach to his music, leaving the pathos behind and thus never running the risk of getting lost in the depths of mainstream pop.
What especially distinguishes the young singer is his keen sense of fascinating songwriting and thoughtful arrangements. He knows exactly what to set in the spotlight at what time and how to create specific moods. In general, Matthias Frey’s musical language is very individual, almost hypnotic, and captivates the listener with beautiful atmospheric, melancholic suspense.
Once again, Sweet Sweet Moon is yet another example that this country offers many talented and promising musicians with enormous potential – musicians that know how to write great songs and inspire their audiences.
