4th Edition of ‘Spot on Denmark’ in Vienna

Once again ink.music brings the best and freshest music from Denmark to Vienna and will celebrate the fourth SPOT ON DENMARK edition with three bands from the heart of Scandinavia. Coming up this Friday, February 1st, RANGLEKLODS, THE ECLECTIC MONIKER and BROKEN TWIN will hit the stage at one of the biggest cultural centres of Europe, the Viennese WUK. As in the past years, the performing bands were selected at the Danish SPOT Festival in May 2012 by an Austrian jury (including FM4, the gap, ORF.at and ink  music). Excellent ingredients for a spectacular night!

It is now the fourth consecutive year that Spot On Denmark – created by MXD and ROSA – The Danish Rock Council – takes place in Vienna and brings a strong delegation of Danish bands and music industry people to Austria. Anders Meisner from MXD explains the concept behind the Spot On Denmark series:
In short, we do it because its important to create a business network for the Danish industry abroad and the shows provide a good basis to create audiences for the bands. We offer Danish and international delegates a good opportunity to get to know each other before the shows. By attending these events both the international industry people and the Danes get new business contacts that fit their needs and company profiles.

In 2012 Spot On Denmark moved to a bigger location as media feedback and audience attention for Danish music has been growing constantly – the evening aims to initiate success stories for bands and industry people alike:
We have often experienced a band getting shows and attention around a SPOT on Denmark event. The shows do create possibilities for the bands to further their careers. Many Danish industry people have met people they can either learn from or work with in the future, and thats key for Danish bands to be successful abroad. There are different key-elements that have to be in place for the showcases to get the ultimate result. The venue and PR around the showcase is very important, and that we get the right people to see the shows.
Also, a lot depends on the bands management or agent, to do a good job at the actual network event, to work hard on convincing possible partners and picking the right people to work with. Its important when we do these events that the international delegates can take some value from participating. In Vienna we have seen bands like Reptile Youth, Rangleklods and Darkness Falls create audiences so that they can now tour the market independently. Its due to hard work from management, labels, PR people and the bands being given a push so they can play the right shows.

The event series is a very effective and long standing concept for B2B and B2C introduction of young Danish acts abroad. Similar events have taken place at Montreux, Brussels, Cologne and Hamburg. MXD keeps tweaking the formula to adapt to market changes:
We have plenty of plans. We want to do more SPOT on DK’s in other European countries. We are obviously very happy with the way the events has been received in the past but at the same time we need to be innovative and change the concepts so it fits with what the Danish industry needs at this point in time. We are trying to create added value for the participating industry, for example by focusing on the sync market in Germany at the last SPOT on DK in Cologne. The industry changes all the time.
At the moment the Danes have a good network in Austria and this is the fourth time we have SPOT on DK in Vienna. So maybe next year we will do something different. At the same time, the events are very successful looking at ticket sales, so the changes will be on the B2B side of things and not with the actual programme. It´s what makes the job fun really, when things develop like this. We also want to keep working with the people from ink Music since they have been the key to four successful events in a row now.

SPOT ON DENMARK 2013
Date: Friday, 01/02/2013, starts 20.00
Location: WUK – www.wuk.at
Line-Up: Rangleklods, The Eclectic Moniker, Broken Twin

LINE-UP
RANGLEKLODS
just recently released his debut “Beekeeper” outside of his home country and managed to rock the jury’s socks off, which landed him a booked gig at the Waves Vienna Festival 2012 and turned out to be one of the big festival highlights. Rangleklods is a true master of making witty melancholy (“Everytime I Cough It’s Like I Taste You”) danceable and taking it to the clubs.

THE ECLECTIC MONIKER

The self-ironically named “Calypso in beards”  were the number one topic of the Spot Festival 2012 – and rightly so: juggling genre and cliché boundaries as entertaining, multifaceted and fabulous as it gets.

BROKEN TWIN

Broken Twin is a young woman capable of telling stories with her very own magic. The music  sounds unmistakably “Nordic” – which additionally underlines the experience. The stunning four-track debut “Hold On To Nothing” is on the verge of causing quite a stir in the international blogosphere. Straightforward and minimalistic, with eerily beautiful instrumentation and output. In the live version Broken Twin consists of Majke Voss Romme and violinist Nils Gröndahl (Under Byen). The first full album by Broken Twin is announced for mid-2013.

Of course the event will also offer a worthy after-show party in the WUK Foyer. On the decks this time is guarantor of  entertainment Katharina Seidler (FM4).
