Sound Park Austria: Django Bates & Wolfgang Muthspiel

One can expect improvisation on the highest level during this special performance. Django Bates first met Wolfgang Muthspiel on stage in Vienna over twenty years ago when they vowed to play together at least once every blue moon. The moon is blue again and they will both appear
at The Forge in London, each playing a solo set, followed by a rare performance where they will jointly explore the music of The Beatles.

The Italian press dubbed Django Bates the ‘Monty Python of jazz’, the French press described him as being ‘in full possession of an over active imagination’, while the Danes awarded him the ‘Jazzpar Prize’, the ‘The Nobel Prize of Jazz’ in 1997. A virtuoso on piano and eb horn
he is treasured for his offbeat wit.

Wolfgang Muthspiel is considered to be one of the most influential guitarists of our time. 30 CDs with mainly his own compositions document his work as bandleader and co-leader. Trained as a classical musician he approaches the acoustic guitar with the same ease as improvisation and jazz. He was recipient of the Hans Koller Prize for ‘Musician of the Year’ in 1997, voted ‘European Jazz Musician of the Year’ in 2003 and Musicians Magazine ranked him among the ‘Top Ten Jazz Guitarists of the World’.
