In 2025, the BMEIA, in cooperation with mica – music austria, is organizing the first Dialogue Residency in Accra, Ghana. The dialogue residency is intended to expand and strengthen musical exchange and networking with the civilian population in Ghana. The residency takes place in the capital Accra, with a duration of six to eight weeks in the period May – September 2025.
Ghana
Ghana is one of the most culturally, artistically and scientifically exciting countries in Africa. An Austrian embassy was opened there in fall 2024.
PROGRAM
- Music workshops / master classes at universities or with musicians in order to learn from each other as equals and gain insights into each other’s culture
- Networking with the local music scene and, if necessary, building partnerships and planning joint projects
- Work on (possibly joint) compositions with cultural elements from both countries
General conditions
People with Austrian citizenship and/or living in Austria are eligible to participate. The program is aimed at individuals. The residency takes place in the capital Accra, with a duration of six to eight weeks in the period May – September 2025.
The dialogue element is essential for the residency. The exchange/networking is to take place via (music) universities, musicians and local associations and is part of the BMEIA’s initiative on the unifying power of music, which was launched in 2024. mica – music austria will advise and support the participants in terms of content and evaluate the residency after completion.
The residency concludes with a “work” in the form of a joint composition, joint recording in the recording studio, joint concert in Ghana or similar.

- Review of the criteria and documents by mica – music austria and BMEIA: Information on acceptance or rejection by March 28, 2025
