MISE-EN FESTIVAL FEATURING VERONIKA MAYER AND BERNHARD EDER IN NYC


MISE-EN MUSIC FESTIVAL

ensemble mise-en is excited to announce mise-en music festival 2014, which will be presented in collaboration with the Momenta Quartet, Ensemble Paramirabo, and more than 30 international composers. The works of these composers were selected from the festival’s call for scores, which yielded 862 submissions by 702 composers from 65 different countries. Among this year’s visiting composers are the Austrian artists Veronika Mayer and Bernhard Eder.
In total, mise-en music festival will feature four curated concerts, one marathon concert (total 6 hours, comprising 6 sectional concerts), and three workshops.

Veronika Mayer

Veronika_MayerVeronika Mayer is a freelance composer, musician and sound artist living in Vienna. Her works include instrumental and electroacoustic compositions, sound installations and performances with live electronics. She is active as electronic improviser, performing solo and in different collaborations, also with visual artists. In her electronic performances and instrumental works she explores the continuous evolvement and expansion of single grains of sound. Focusing on the striking results of very smooth and minimal changes in sound modulation, she is observing the slightest differences and variations during these processes of manipulation. Her works have been presented at various festivals for contemporary and experimental music and soundart in Austria, Argentina, Czech Republic, Denmark, Germany, Great Britain, Italy and Mexico. She received commissions by Wien Modern, Jeunesse Wien, ÖGZM, Ensemble Reconsil, Ensemble Platypus, Hörstadt, e_may, The International Rosario Marciano Piano Competition, amongst others. 2011 she received the Scholarship for Young Artists by the Austrian Federal Ministry for Education, Arts and Culture, 2007 the Theodor-Körner Award for Sciences and Art. Veronika Mayer studied electroacoustic music with Germán Toro-Pérez and Karlheinz Essl, composition with Detlev Müller-Siemens and classical piano with Jochen Köhler at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna. She is a member of the Austrian network snim – spontaneous network for improvised music.

Bernhard Eder

Bernhard_EderBernhard Eder (*1984 in Vienna, Austria) devoted his life to the arts of music very early on. At the age of 15, he made the decision to become a composer and conductor, while already doing his first autodidactic studies. After graduation at the Vienna Music Highschool he spent his obligatory military service time as a pianist/arranger at the Military Music Department Vienna. 2005-2013 he studied composition with Martin Lichtfuss, Reinhard Karger and finally Michael Jarrell at the University of Music and Performing Arts, Vienna and graduated there as a Magister artium (Master of Arts) in January 2013. 2006 he won the 1st prize at the international composing competition „Salieri-today“. Since 2009 he also studies orchestral conducting at the Music University Vienna with Uros Lajovic & Simeon Pironkoff. He attended conducting workshops there with the maestros Bertrand de Billy, Fabio Luisi, Johannes Wildner and a masterclass with Naoki Sugiyama in Estonia. He conducted orchestras like Sinfonietta dell’ Arte (Vienna) and Klaspärlimäng Sinfonietta (Estonia).
