Founded in 1987 in Austin, Texas, SXSW is best known for its conference and festivals that celebrate the convergence of the interactive, film, and music industries. The event features sessions, showcases, screenings, exhibitions, and a variety of networking opportunities. SXSW 2019 will take place March 8–17, 2019 in Austin, TX.
At SXSW 2019, Austria will again be present with a selection of innovative and promising young startups, global leaders, and institutions from music and culture, as well as the interactive scene. Besides the presence of Austrian tech companies in Austin, the SXSW music festival will feature a show by Mavi Phoenix.
In addition, a music exhibition will put a spotlight on the significant role that women have played in the making of music throughout the centuries: Musica Femina provides a venue for female musical, artistic and political discussion and highlights the substantial contribution that women have made both in the fields of composition and music-making. The exhibition is on show from March 9-11 at EU@SXSW – Palm Door on Sixth.
MAVI PHOENIX AT SXSW 2019 AND NEW COLOSSUS FESTIVAL NYC
As a producer, songwriter, and performer, Mavi Phoenix has never been afraid to blaze her own trail. Her genre-mashing three EPs and one-off singles to date have drawn unexpected links between pop, hip-hop, and electronic sounds, and listening to them in sequence can feel like a thrilling plunge into a selection box of assorted musical treats. Her multifaceted music sticks a middle finger up to the narrow margins that women artists can be forced to exist in.
Mavi Phoenix can be an Amazonian warrior, hedonistic party girl, and confessional songwriter in the space of an 18-minute EP. Her current EP, Young Prophet II, further proves her versatility.

Germany’s Reeperbahn Festival is Europe’s largest annual club festival and most important meeting place for the global music- and digital industry since 2006. The festival’s own New York City edition during A2IM`s Indie Week from June 17-20 will host international emerging talent and professionals aiming to enter the US market. Keychange is an international campaign investing in emerging female talent and encouraging festivals to sign up to a gender equality pledge by 2022. Keychange is led by PRS Foundation, supported by the Creative Europe programme of the European Union, in partnership with Musikcentrum Öst, Reeperbahn Festival, Iceland Airwaves, BIME, Tallinn Music Week, Way Out West, Liverpool Sound City and Mutek.
Leading up to SXSW 2019, Mavi Phoenix will also perform in New York at New Colossus Festival on March 8 (19:30, The Delancey). The New Colossus festival is designed as a stopover opportunity for artists travelling to SXSW, organized for musicians, the music industry, and music fans.
