Just a few months after their highly acclaimed showcase at this year’s jazzahead festival, the young lads of Kompost 3 have now been revealed as the official winners of the coveted Bremen Jazz Award 2014. Congratulations!
At the grande finale on the 26th of September, the bands were judged by a prestigious jury panel on artistic quality, instrumental skills, stage presentation, stage performance and originality. The audience also had a say – each visitor was able to vote for their favorite. Coming out on top, the Viennese band Kompost 3 competed in the last round against the jazz formations Pecco Billo and KUU! and took home the prize worth an impressive € 10,000.
“We are very happy to receive this award,” says Manu Mayr, bass player of Kompost 3. “It has been wonderful to see how our music affected the audience in Bremen. And the timing could not be better. We soon want to start recording a new album – this prize money almost covers all the financing.”
Currently celebrated as one of the most exciting young acts of the Austrian jazz and improv scene, Kompost 3 are definitely making their mark and we can’t wait to see what else this band has in store for us.
