IAMIC Conference 2024

IAMIC-Conference-2024

This year’s edition of the annual conference and meeting of IAMIC (International Association of Music Centres) will be dedicated to sustainability. In recent years, this issue has increasingly come into focus, particularly in the ecological sense – we also extend this concept to social and psychological levels.

CONNECTING THE WORLD THROUGH MUSIC: IAMIC is an international network of organisations that collectively and collaboratively provides information and promotes the music of their countries or regions.Facilitating relationships among members and creating networking opportunities that increase capabilities that support greater access to and appreciation of music.

In order to enable access for as many people as possible, both on- and backstage, cultural events must rethink their approach. Enabling access to cultural events for disabled persons will be discussed, as will the question of the significance of mental health in the cultural sector.

HOW TO ENABLE RISK-TAKING IN CURATION

Wiener Konzerthaus – Wotruba Salon, Lothringer Straße 20, 1030 Vienna, Austria

Panel discussion (in English) with Judith Fliedl (violinist, artistic researcher, audience researcher), Bernhard Günther (Wien Modern), Irena Müller-Brozović (Bruckner Universität Linz), Shilla Strelka (curator, concert promoter, culture journalist), Ulla Pilz (moderator)

The decision of what, in what form, makes it to the stage and is presented to the audiences lies, in part, in the hands of event organizers: they are the people who make artistic work possible and provide channels to audiences. However, not everything can be realized. This discussion will consider the following questions: what are the different views and approaches to curation; what role do mechanisms of inclusion and exclusion play? How can a framework be created that allows space for artistic experimentation, instead of always playing it safe in programming? What role does the audience play in this context? To what extent can we work sustainably, both artistically and psychosocially?
