Franz Hautzinger’s Poet Congress: “Weltallende”

No, you can not expect the ordinary when Franz Hautzinger invites like-minded folks to join him on a journey to the limits of musicality. “Weltallende” (Loewenhertz) is the title of Franz Hautzinger and his Poet Congress’s new CD and reveals itself as a prime example of what can evolve when you step out of the traditional music thinking box.  The starting point of this exciting musical experiment were text fragments from the painter and lyricist August Walla who died in 2001, which are now unlined by the trumpeter and his improvisation crew with sharp and bizarre sound and vocal art contexts. The CD will be premiered on the 21st of October during the closing ceremony of the big Walla presentation in Museum Gugging in Lower Austria.

The idea for this unusual project was born early 2012, when Franz Hautzinger and his Poet Congress were asked to produce a track for a CD dedicated to August Walla. A challenge which the formation around the native Burgenland trumpeter could not deny. As you may expect from a group of such unconventional artists, their efforts resulted in an extraordinary and finely spun electro-acoustic work of art.

Walla’s poetic and powerful lyrics are presented in a very concentrated, chaotic, extremely intense and improvised form, which unites together with a playful, detailed and weird experimental musical foundation into a multi-layered sound universe of a different kind. More than ever, it is the spontaneous and constantly evolving sound figures that determine the events. You never know in which direction Franz Hautzinger and his colleagues will turn to in their pieces, which makes the CD even more compelling.

“Weltallende” is a tribute to one of the most influential artists of the last millennium, a hommage to a creative individual who dedicated his life to his art. Doubtless, the CD is not mainstream compatible and doesn’t catch you right from the start. Given the time to enfold, this CD will open up a completely new listening experience that surely is all the more captivating.
