FILOUS

Performance Date: Thursday, January 14
Time: 00:30 – 01:15
Venue: Paradigm, Groningen

Unlike other electronic music artists,  filous plays every instrument on his own – an unusual approach that has already earned him many admirers and an ever growing online listening community. Hailed as the breakout star of the electronic dance music scene, filous has been making a name for himself by reinterpreting and deconstructing existing tracks and adding his own spin on the music. With the release of several bootleg remixes, including RAC’s “Tear You Down”, Jose Gonzales’ “Heartbeats”, Porter Robinson’s “Divinity” and Damien Jurado’s “Ohio”, the Vienna-based producer was able to gather a huge following and millions of soundcloud plays in only a matter of months.

Beginning his music education at the age of 10, filous taught himself to play the bass, guitar and piano before moving on to the harmonica, accordion, didgeridoo and many more – learned entirely from YouTube tutorials. At age 16 he created the moniker filous, meaning “rascal” in French, to release his remixes online.

On his recently released debut EP “DAWN”, filou enlisted the help of fellow musician James Hersey for the track “How Hard I Try” – right from the bat the single debuted at #3 on the Spotify Global Chart and #7 on the U.S. Viral Chart and has been streamed more than five million times since its release.

JAMES HERSEY

Performance Date: Friday, January 15
Time: 21:30 – 22:15
Venue: Vrijdag, Groningen

James Hersey is a multi-talented singer-songwriter from Vienna, who writes his own lyrics, plays multiple instruments, produces his own albums and even directs his own videos. Already at the age of 17, he independently produced his first self-titled EP, which celebrated its first radio plays in Austria and caught the attention of various promoters and clubs. He then traveled across Europe and the U.S., writing songs and playing live to gather experience and inspiration for his sound.

When James Hersey returned to Vienna in 2012, he produced and released his mixtape “Twelve,” his first foray into electronic production with lyrical and melodic sensibility rooted in a singer-songwriter background. National radio station and early supporter FM4 picked up on the indie-release almost immediately and named James Hersey “Artist Of The Month” in January 2013, landing four tracks in the top 10 of their charts and a nomination for the Amadeus Austrian Music Awards. With a growing repertoire in tow, he hit the road again and was invited to play support for established acts such as Left Boy, Seeed, and Will.I.Am. On the way he met Milky Chance, who invited him to join their self-made label-family “Lichtdicht Records”.

Steadily gaining more and more ground, James Hersey has recently collaborated with internationally renowned artists like Kygo, Dillon Francis and Filous on tracks like “Coming Over” and “How Hard I Try,” which each have amassed millions of plays on Spotify and Soundcloud. Things are looking bright for James Hersey, who also just got signed by the Glassnote Entertainment Group and with which he will release his next studio-produced album.
