The European Academy for Choral Conductors 2012 in Graz, Austria, organised by ChVÖ, Chorverband Österreich (Austrian Choral Association) in cooperation with KUG University for Music and Performing Arts Graz, Austria is a project in cooperation with ECA‐Europa Cantat offering talented young conductors the opportunity to develop their conducting qualities and to get to know new choral repertoire of a high standard in intercultural dialogue.
Artistic Direction: Prof. Johannes Prinz
Professor for choral conducting at KUG, University of Music and Performing Arts Graz, Austria, Chorus Master of Wiener Singverein. As a highly qualified teacher he is internationally renowned for his pedagogical abilities in teaching technical, musical and educational aspects of choral conducting.
Assistance: Franz Jochum
Choral and orchestral conductor; teacher at KUG, University of Music and Performing Arts Graz, Austria. He is especially interested in innovative concert presentation, the connection between tradition and modernity, fusion of vocal music with other artistic genres, and the development of new vocal techniques and forms of expression.

Oratory‐Chorus for the professional and advanced amateur choir: Johannes Brahms: Ein deutsches Requiem; Joseph Haydn: Die Jahreszeiten; Franz Schmidt: Das Buch mit sieben Siegeln; Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy: Elias; Leoš Janáček: Msa Glagolskaja; Benjamin Britten: War Requiem; Gioacchino Rossini: Stabat Mater; Leonard Bernstein: Chichester Psalms; Arthur Honegger: König David; Carl Orff: Carmina Burana; Igor Strawinsky: Symphony of Psalms; and others.
Contemporary choral music:
New prize winning pieces of a competition in cooperation with European music universities and Austrian Choral Association. The detailed programme will be published at the latest by the end of 2011. The programme will be presented in a public concert in Minoritensaal in Graz at the end of the course on Saturday, September 15, 2012.

Participants:
Conductors from all over Europe can apply for active (maximal 12) or observing participation in the choirin‐residence. Selection of the active participants will be made by Johannes Prinz and Franz Jochum with the aid of the DVDs sent in. Participants not chosen for active participation will have the choice of observing participation in the same course. Active and observing participants have to sing in the choir‐in‐residence. Observing participants take part in the courses but are not taught directly.
Age limit: Conductors with active participation may not be older than 35 years in September 2012 (born later than October 01, 1977)
The participants will be able to work with a choir consisting of
a) active participants
b) observing participants
c) students of choral conducting of the University of Music and Performing Arts Graz ‐ Austria and well experienced members of national youth choirs.
