Each new year starts with the first official gathering of the music industry at Eurosonic Noorderslag, Europe’s most significant showcase festival. The next edition of the Dutch festival will take place on January 17-20, 2018, in Groningen, NL, featuring performances by Europe’s freshest up-and-coming music artists. The festival gathers the most important music industry protagonists, such as festival organisers, bookers, music promoters and journalists, from across Europe to get a taste of the most promising acts on the market. With a lot of good talent to go around, it is a great honor to be chosen as the country’s musical representative and a huge opportunity to showcase in front of so many industry professionals.

Together with 30 European radio stations, ESNS (Eurosonic Noorderslag) has just announced the first artists for its upcoming edition. For each country, the acts are selected in co-operation with the national radio broadcaster. Chosen by ORF/Radio FM4 and as the first Austrian act to be confirmed for Eurosonic Noorderslag 2018, NIHILS are ready to show the Eurosonic audience just how far they have come.

NIHILS – GOING PLACES

Originally from the mountainous region of the Tyrolean Alps, the music of Nihils could easily be accredited to a band springing from England or the USA. In the summer of 2011 their single “Set my Sail” (SONY Music) captured nationwide attention and climbed to #14 on the national charts.
Although originally formed as a quartet, they have since settled in as a trio – Ramon Riezouw (vocals, piano), Florian Nothegger (guitar) und Thomas Lackner (drums). After a stylistic change in 2014 they now sound much more electronic than their earlier indie-phase. Their most successful single Help Our Souls achieved over 4 million streams. The remix hit over 20 million and was on heavy rotation on radio stations across the country. It also brought them to the SXSW Festival in 2015 and an international support-gig for 30 Seconds to Mars.

In April 2017, their debut album Perspectives was finally released. A mix of timeless pop and modern elements. NIHILS want to build on their national exposure to cross the border. The band is working with Four Artists and have made some waves supporting the German electro-pop band Claire in club shows around Germany. They have also spent the summer performing at festivals in Austria and Germany, live-sessions in the Red Bull Studios as well as summer shows in Switzerland and Spain. It might have taken them a while to finally release their debut LP, but thats just because they had a lot of concerts to play. One thing that obviously won´t change.
