In October 2021, CATALYTIC SOUND FESTIVAL will take place every weekend of the month, worldwide – each one focusing on its own scene. The mini-festivals can be experienced both live in the respective cities and via stream. A Catalytic Sound Festival will also take place in Vienna – right at the beginning of the month, on October 1st and 2nd at Porgy & Bess – which will kick-off of an ongoing upcoming series there: “charhizma presents: Catalytic Sounds”.
Catalytic Sound, founded in 2015, is a collective of creative musicians that gives its members more control over the distribution and sale of their work. Catalytic Sound is also a distribution platform for the musicians’ DIY record labels. But Catalytic Sound wants to do more than just sell “great” records – it wants to help generate economic resources for musicians while documenting and making accessible artistic developments in contemporary improvised and experimental music.
Since last year, Catalytic Sound has also stood for its own festival, which was created in response to pandemic restrictions on international performances by musicians. Here, too, new ground is being broken together to provide musicians with opportunities for expression. On all weekends of October 2021, there will be Catalytic Sound Festivals in various cities around the world: Amsterdam (NL), Chicago (US), New York (US), Rotterdam (NL), Trondheim (NO), Washington D.C. (US) and right at the beginning of the month in Vienna (AT). Each festival focuses on its own scene, on musicians who live and work locally and offer diverse approaches to improvised music. All concerts can be seen and heard not only live in the respective venues, but also via streaming worldwide.

The Catalytic Sound Festival Vienna is also the kick-off of a series that will take place at the Porgy: “charhizma presents: Catalytic Sounds”.
