Operadagen Rotterdam are dedicated to the field of music theatre, presenting major music theatre productions, showcases and presentations to a circle of international producers. What started in 2018 with a presentation of three selected works by Austrian composers within the professionals programme, will be continued in 2019 on a larger scale. For the first time, Austrian Music Export will organize an Austrian focus at the renowned festival for passionate contemporary music theatre.

Austrian focus & call for proposals

In addition to an Austrian Heartbeats Reception, the Austrian focus at the Operadagen Rotterdam 2019 consists of two formats. Six Austrian groups (à 2 people) will get the chance to pitch their work to an audience of international experts while two other companies (à 4 people) will be showcasing in front of an international audience of music theatre artists and producers. All selected works will emerge out of a call for proposals. Music theatre companies, producers, composers and musicians from Austria are invited to apply for presenting their music theatre production at the Operadagen Rotterdam 2019 (19.-21.5.2019) and later at the Musiktheatertage Wien 2019 (12.-22.9.2019).

Applications are open until February 17, 2019. The works will be selected by a prominent jury, consisting of:

  • Carola Bauckholt (Composer, Anton Bruckner Privatuniversität)
  • Guy Coolen (Artistic Director Operadagen Rotterdam)
  • Georg Steker (Artistic Director Musiktheatertage Wien 2019)
  • Iris ter Schiphorst (Composer, Universität für Musik und darstellende Kunst Wien).
