Austrian Artists in The Hague

"Gestochen und weg" by Elisabeth Schimana, Netzzeit (c) NurithWagner-Strauss

To kick-off the Austrian Focus in Rotterdam, Austrian artists are invited to the Austrian Residence in The Hague. On May 20, 2019 members of the ensemble Airborne extended will perform solo and duo pieces. The concert programme will be accompanied by an artist talk.

Music theatre reflects current aspects in a variety of ways – be it on the level of artistic representation with its diverse media and/or the confrontation with current topics such as social and political developments. These contemporary approaches relate to all eight works which will be presented at the Austrian Focus at the Operadagen Rotterdam 2019. The works emerged out of a call call for entries and were selected by an international jury.

Among the selected works is “Gestochen und Weg” by the Austrian composer Elisabeth Schimana. The piece takes a girl on a journey into a virtual world of sound and images far away from everyday temptations and admonitions. Two of the musicians of the ensemble Airborne extended, that premiered the work, will perform solo and duo pieces on this concert evening at the Austrian Residence in The Hague. Together with Elisabeth Schimana, the flutists will give insights into the latest developments in contemporary music theatre in an artist talk led by Doris Weberberger.
