Austrian artists at The Great Escape Festival 2019

The Great Escape (TGE) is a festival that showcases emerging artists from all over the world in Brighton, UK. Over 450 up and coming bands play in 35 venues across the city, which makes TGE the first place to discover new favorite bands and see them in an intimate setting before they go on to headline major festival stages. The Great Escape 2019 will take place from May 9-11, 2019 in Brighton, UK.

From Austria, 5K HD, Melt Downer, Petrol Girls and Thorsteinn Einarsson will perform at the festival. The “Austrian Heartbeats Matinee Showcase” will again take place at one of Brighton´s loveliest pubs, The Prince Albert, on Friday.

AUSTRIAN ARTISTS AT TGE19

Austrian artists will perform throughout The Great Escape festival. Those who want to get a taste of Austria in one quick stop can join us for the Austrian Heartbeats Matinee on Friday, May 10th.

MELT DOWNER

Melt Downer is the loud playground of three creative minds exploring eruptive ideas – consisting of Wolfgang Möstl, Mario Zangl (both: Mile me deaf, Killed by 9V batteries) and Florian Giessauf. Somewhere between noise, psychedelic and all possible sub-genres of rock, the lo-fi sound of their second studio album “Alter The Stunt” (Numavi Records/Rock Is Hell) fits perfectly to the trio´s general aim: not giving a damn about current musical trends.

Shows: Prince Albert, 12:30pm Friday // The Hope and Ruin, 10:30pm Saturday

THORSTEINN EINARSSON

Thorsteinn Einarsson rightly deserves his fixed place in Austria’s musical landscape. At the age of 22, the singer/songwriter can already look back on very significant achievements, including an Amadeus Austrian Music Award for his first hit single “Leya”. His songs were streamed more than 7 million times, reached over 2 million views on Youtube and were played over 15.000 times on Austrian radios. His much anticipated sophomore album “Ingi” will be released in May 2019, with the singles “Galaxy”, “Genesis” and “Two Hearts” as well as performances at Eurosonic Festival and The Great Escape leading up to it.

Shows: Prince Albert, 2:30pm Friday // The Hope and Ruin, 11:15pm Saturday

5K HD

The Austrian supergroup 5K HD plays with partly acoustic, partly electronic sounds and without ever losing sight of a pop sensibility while moving fluently through jazz, dubstep, breakbeats, funk and even into a prog rock escalation. Their singer Mira Lu Kovacs is regarded as one of the most expressive voices in the scene. 5K HD released their debut “And To In A” to international critical acclaim, followed by lauded performances and sold out shows all over Europe.

Shows: Three Wise Cats (Casablanca), 8:30pm Thursday // Prince Albert, 1:30pm Friday

Petrol Girls

Petrol Girls are a feminist post-hardcore punk band, originally formed in London, with members from Austria, Lithuania and the UK. Now based in Graz and touring incessantly, the band is a strong advocate of freedom of movement, anti capitalism and intersectional feminism. Rooted in a DIY music community that has always combined politics with punk rock, Petrol Girls are part of a counter culture challenging mainstream values like nationalism and the gender binary. They have a diverse range of influences and have supported bands such as The Dead Kennedys, Propagandhi, RVIVR, War on Women and Refused.

Shows: Prince Albert, 11:30pm Thursday // Prince Albert, 3:30pm Friday
