SXSW 2018 will take place March 9–18, 2018 in Austin, TX. This year five Austrian groups have been invited to perform in Texas. KIDS N CATS, LEYYA, MOONLIGHT BREAKFAST, PRINZ GRIZZLEY, and SOIA will be taking the stage at one of the largest music events in the world.
KIDS N CATS
The Austrian music scene has long been a rather international experience. Musicians from across the planet have been coming together to mkidsake music here for decades. Sometimes it seems as though multilingual lineups are actually the norm. Despite the global nature of the local scene, it is still rare that a newcomer band can claim to have a global tour behind them.
KIDS N CATS are one of them. Although it might be a stretch to call a band with an album and an EP already behind them newcomers. Their 2015 debut album “Kaos”, and 2016 EP “Juicy Worlds” weren’t just proof that they knew what they were doing, but also provided the basis for their first award: the 2016 Austrian Music Video Award for “Tête de pastèque”.
BEEN THERE DONE THAT
Originally founded by Jeanne Nickels, Peter Paul Aufreiter and Marten Kaffke in 2014, Kids n Cats have been combining a variety of musical influences to create their own special form of superpop. A weird, wild and excessive mix of things you might recognise packed into a unique new package. A sound that helped them win a NASOM award, and, as a result took them to Israel, France, Germany, Austria, Japan, China, Taiwan, Australia, Mexico, Brazil and Swaziland.
The project was aptly titled “11 Songs, 11 Countries”. “Germany” is the first single that they have released from their upcoming album that they are planning to release with the tracks created during their travels. And, as you might expect from the title, the music video was filmed in Shangai.
