Eurosonic Noorderslag is the largest and most significant showcase festival in the European live-music industry. The next edition of the Dutch festival will take place on January 11-14, 2017, in Groningen, NL, featuring performances by Europe’s freshest up-and-coming music artists. The festival gathers the most important music industry protagonists, such as festival organisers, bookers, music promoters and journalists, from across Europe to get an idea of the most promising acts on the market.

Austria will be represented by SALUTE, INNER TONGUE, WANDL, FAREWELL DEAR GHOST and MOTHER`S CAKE. In addition, Austrian producer Filous was announced as a winner of the 2017 European Border Breakers Awards (EBBA), the European music awards for emerging artists.

Join the Austrian delegates for a networking breakfast on Friday, January 13! We’ll present the framework of our upcoming biennial focus on the Ex-Yugoslavian countries in 2017/18 and especially invite people of this region to work with us on collaboration ideas and joint projects. Of course delegates from other countries are also very welcome to meet with the Austrian professionals in other matters. Read more: Networking Breakfast at #ESNS17

FAREWELL DEAR GHOST

Farewell Dear Ghost (c) Christoph Liebentritt

Farewell Dear Ghost was originally the solo project of the Graz based singer-songwriter Philipp Szalay. In the meantime, it has developed into a full-fledged band dedicated to atmospheric indie-pop. The lightly melancholic sound of Farewell Dear Ghost leaves room for grand gestures and pathos, while deftly steering around the dangers of banality and superficiality. The songs on the debut album “We Colour The Night” have depth and the melodies are moving. At the beginning of 2016, Farewell Dear Ghost accompanied the US band Nada Surf on the European tour, and in 2017 a new album is set to follow. Link: www.farewelldearghost.com

INNER TOUNGE

Inner Tongue makes electronic and hypnotically dreamy pop with depth. The Viennese musician forgoes the grand gesture while maintaining an eye for exquisite detail. Somewhere between the synth passages, melancholic guitar melodies and simple beats, a lot manages to happen which gives the whole thing a very individual swing. But above all, the music authentically portraits the frame of mind of its maker. You can hear the pain, hope and doubt that he has endured. Link: www.facebook.com/innertongue/

MOTHER`S CAKE

Helping rock with progressive elements find new fields of expression might be one the the musical goals of the Tyrollean band Mother’s Cake. With their debut album “Creations Finest” (2012), they managed to draw first attention to themselves. But it was their follow-up album in 2015, “Love the Filth”, that finally brought them to the international stage. The band, that accompanied the British progressive metal band Anathema on their Distant Satellites tour, likes it loud, powerful, edgy and psychedelic with multifaceted and thoughtfully arranged songs. In January 2017 they will be releasing their third album, “No Rhyme No Reason”. Link: www.motherscake.com

WANDL

Wandl (c) Andreas Jakwerth
Wandl (c) Andreas Jakwerth

Wandl celebrates a very sonorous and delicate form of electronic music. A little hip hop here, a pinch of pop there, dark deep sounds with beats that are more angular than straight. Velvety minimalistic melodies, broad walls of sound and vocals from afar – mixed together in a very individual way. His tracks, like his release “Far Way Home” on Affine Records, radiate something magically inviting. Wandl realises his enigmatic live shows with good friend and visual artist Clemens Haas. SALUTE

Born & raised in Vienna and heavily influenced by UK bass culture, the 20-year-old producer Felic Nyajo aka salute is currently based in the UK. Although he only started making music in 2012, Nyajo’s compositions have ranged from hip-hop beats to synth-led electronics, that have showcased melodic, energetic and harsh elements to his production work. The blogosphere was set alight upon the release of his EPs ‘Gold Rush’ and ‘My Heart’, which showcased Nyajo’s ability to produce soulful melodies, while directly aiming for the dance-floor. Nyajo’s work found huge support from a swath of influential editorial sites including The Fader, HypeTrak and Dummy. Link: www.facebook.com/saluteaut/

FILOUS

A self-taught multi-instrumentalist – counting mandolin, guitar, piano, accordion, flute, bass, and drums among a few of his many skills – Austrian producer Filous began remixing tracks in 2014, with notable remixes for artists such as José González and Kodaline. The following year he released his first original tune ‘How Hard I Try’ featuring James Hersey on vocals. Just as Filous graduated from high school, that track went on to notch over ten million streams and was included on his debut EP, Dawn. In November, Filous was announced as a winner of the 2017 European Border Breakers Awards (EBBA), the European music awards for emerging artists. Link: filous
