Graz is an international center for contemporary and experimental music, and every two years, the picturesque city on the Mur plays host to an array of international coaches and participants: the impuls Academy. The next edition will take place from February 17 – 28, 2025, and applications are now open!
Founded by Beat Furrer and Ernst Kovacic, the impuls Academy – now in its 14th edition – quickly developed into an internationally renowned event in the world of contemporary music. The academy, coupled with the impuls Festival, is based at the University for Music and Performing Arts in Graz and also features concerts, workshops, and other events at locations throughout the city.
Over twelve days, the academy offers young musicians, composers, and other artists from all over the world the chance to immerse themselves in the theory and practice of contemporary music, guided by an international team of renowned muscians and composers – and the opportunity to meet and network with their peers from all over the world.
In addition to individual lessons, ensemble coaching, and lectures, the academy offers a series of special programs – in 2025, these will include intermedia collaboration, team composition, instant composing, and many others.
How to Apply
In order to apply – as an ensemble, individual musician, computer musician/sound artist, or composer – head over to the academy’s registration page, download and fill out the appropriate form, and send it – along with the required materials – to office@impuls.cc (you can also write that address with questions, or if you don’t fit into the above categories). Be sure to read the conditions for participation carefully.
* Please note that openings for composers are currently filled, though the academy is maintaining a waiting list and may be able to offer more spots at a later date. There are still openings for other applicants, but they recommend you apply as soon as possible!
