“5 Million Pesos” is a monthly concert and radio broadcast series of young jazz in and from Austria – presented by Radiokulturhaus Vienna and the Ö1 jazz department.
River:
Nina Feldgrill (electric bass)
Robert Unterköfler (tenor saxophone)
Erik Asatrian (keyboards)
Simon Springer (drums)
With bassist Nina Feldgrill, the Ö1 Jazz Scholarship winner 2024 will be presented as part of the “5 Million Pesos” series.
The 25-year-old Viennese was awarded the jazz scholarship certificate on April 30 this year at the Ö1 Jazz Day in Salzburg’s Jazzit, where she will receive a two-year scholarship at the Jam Music Lab Private University in Vienna and a CD production with Quinton Records.
In Studio 3, Feldgrill, who specializes in the six-string electric bass, will present herself with the quartet River, founded in 2022 and led together with saxophonist Robert Unterköfler (incidentally, Ö1 Jazz Scholarship Winner 2018). Their debut album “Chameleon Circuit” was released in May. The band, completed by Erik Asatrian (keyboards) and Simon Springer (drums), shows a powerful and refined groove orientation, partly inspired by the fusion jazz of the 1980s. In addition to the excellent soloist Robert Unterköfler, Nina Feldgrill also stands out with her virtuoso string skills, revealing Jaco Pastorius as an influencing factor in her artistic path.
A band with a multifaceted promise for the future of Austrian jazz!
In cooperation with the Ö1 Jazz editorial office.
Concert: November 22, 2024, 8 p.m. @ Studio 3 at Radiokulturhaus Vienna
Airdate: Night of 23-24 November, 2024 on the Ö1 Jazznacht (Moderation: Christian Bakonyi)
