“5 Million Pesos” – Young Jazz in and from Austria. A concert series by RadioKulturhaus Wien and Ö1 jazz editors. For the January 2023 edition: the Katarina Kochetova Trio.

Concert time & place: Thu 26.01.2023, 8pm, KlangTheater, Radiokulturhaus

Katarina Kochetova Trio

Katarina Kochetova (piano)

Hugo Löf (double bass)

Erik Cappelin (percussion)

The just 21-year-old pianist and singer Katarina Kochetova comes together with her trio as the next guests in the concert series for young jazz in and from Austria.

Born in Kiev and raised in Belgrade, where she studied classical piano, Kochetova has been living in Austria since 2018 and is no stranger to the Viennese scene.

Here she is studying jazz piano with Oliver Kent at the MUK (Music and Arts Private University of the City of Vienna), and along the way she has made a name for herself in the local scene as a highly talented, flexible pianist who, for example, also plays in the trio of singer and saxophonist Madeleine Joel (Ö1 Jazz Scholarship winner 2021). During her year abroad at the Royal Academy of Music in Stockholm, Katarina Kochetova met the two equally talented young Swedish musicians Hugo Löf (double bass) and Erik Cappelin (drums), with whom she forms her new dream team. Purely instrumental, they serve up original compositions and imaginative interpretations of jazz standards. On this evening, Kochetova will prove that she has a special knack for the intricate pieces of Thelonious Monk.

Broadcast on the Ö1 Jazz Night radio series: 11th/12th of February, 2023

In cooperation with the Ö1 jazz editorial department.
