21st – 24th of November: Blue Bird Festival 2012

Date: Wed, 21.11.2012 – Sat, 24.11.2012
Venue: Porgy und Bess (Riemergasse 11, 1010 Vienna)

Themed with the motto “What a constellation”, this year’s Blue Bird Festival will celebrate the 15th Birthday of the Canadian label Constellation with a musical spectrum ranging from quirky singer/songwriting to epic post-rock. Starting on the 21st of November, the first two days will be entirely devoted to the label Constellation, the 23rd and 24th of November will then stand in the good old Blue Bird tradition.

Among numerous highlights with exceptional and unique vocal harmonies and superb visuals, the Blue Bird Festival succeeded in bringing several renowned artists from the global singer/songwriter scene to Austria.
Just to pick out a few: This year’s festival line-up will include the Irish rising star Mick Flannery, whose latest album “Red To Blue” led the charts for numerous weeks in his home country. Often compared with the likes of David Bowie and Antony and the Johnsons , the London-based band The Irrepressibles will hit the Blue Bird stage as one of the most innovative bands in the current music scene. Above that, music connoissieurs can look forward to Swedish blues rock by Daniel Norgren and the British post-punk legend Robyn Hitchcock, who will be back in Austria for the first time after 21 years. Mediterranean indie pop sounds will come from Vadoinmessico, who climbed the Austrian FM4 charts with their hit “Pepita, Queen of the Animals”. Folk, blues and psychedelic rock can be expected from Josephine Foster from Colorado, who will be playing in Austria for the first time.

As in the past few years, the Blue Bird Festival will also feature local artists: Anna Kohlweis, aka Paper Bird, will present her new project Squalloscope. Katrin Navessi, also known as the lead singer of the electropop formation Jellybeat, will unveil her folky solo debut “17 Shades Of Blue”. And not to forget, the cutting-edge indie folk pop band Garish, who will introduce new songs from their upcoming album.
